The Board

Venue: Greenville, SC .. February 26 2000

Thanks to Johnny Smith for this review:

Bruce Hornsby performed at the Peace Center in Greenville , SC on February 26, 2000. The Peace Center is a small hall, relatively new, with great accoustics, holds about 1500.

Edwin McCain opened for him and came out onstage alone with a guitar. He played a few songs and then said he was not originally scheduled to play, but being a hometown Greenville boy and a huge Bruce Hornsby fan, he begged to get to play. The crowd loved it and Edwin McCain gave a fabulous show warming up for Bruce, all accoustic.

As soon as Edwin McCain finished out came Bruce, shirt tail out carrying a bottle of water and said something like "It is a beautiful night, this is a beautiful hall, this is a great piano, I have no excuses..."

Then he cut lose into Country Doctor... it was a long rendition and he kept everyone totally mesmerized for about 1 hour and 45 minutes. He was absolutely awesome. He traded quips with the audience and even let a fan come up on stage and play the piano, playing Special Night. It was hilarious!!

My only disappointment was that he did not play "The Show Goes On", but other than that, no complaints.

Afterward there was a VIP party for donors who had contributed to the Peace Center or had paid $100 bucks a ticket (me) and we got to go to the function. Edwin McCain came in immediately and was a nice fellow and very down to earth. About 20 minutes later Bruce came in and I got to meet him, seemed very down to earth, and also shook hands, took pictures with him etc. It was a "Special Night" ... I was a Bruce fan before, and now I am a huge fan.
