Don Lawson Jr contributed this from his hometown of Louisville:
For my first Bruce Hornsby live experience, it was definetly one to remember. I have all of his albums but have never get the chance to see him in concert as he doesn't come through Louisville very often.
The show started off a little late but I could tell that may be a usual occurance. I wasn't sure. But, there is nothing to complain about because once the show started it was full boar all night.
Bruce came out with the band and kicked it off with a tribute to Randy Newman with "Life isn't Fair" I think that's the title. Anyway, he then went into a medley of Song C and the Intro to Harbor lights which then kicked up with the whole band with "Harbor Lights". I was impressed.
I got "Here Come the Noise Makers" just to get an idea of how a concert was, it was a good sample but nothing is better than the real thing live.
He then went into some songs that I were not that familiar with. He also threw in some more recognizable stuff such as "King of the Hill." Being in Louisville, he threw in a few little comments about Rick Pitino which were pretty amusing. He did it again during "Rainbow's Cadillac". To be honest it was all kind of a blur as I was trying to take it all in.
The first half of the show was upbeat but everyone sat through it. After the break, it really kicked off! Bruce came out first and did a little solo with Country Doctor. The band came out shortly and things began to pick up quick.
I had seen on the cover of "Noise Makers" people dancing on stage but being the Palace Theatre, I didn't know if they would go for that. Yeah right. Once the music picked up people started parading on staging and jaming with Bruce and the band. One guy had his little daughter on stage. It was awsome. If someone can remember more of the songs feel free to include them in this review. He ran a bunch of stuff together including "Rainbows Cadilac" and "Defenders of the Flag" All in all, it was a great show.
As I said at the start, Bruce doesn't come through Louisville often but when he came out for his encore, he mentioned how impressed he was with the audience and that they would have to come through town more offten! I look forward to their next visit.
