AndyNova had a great time in York - thanks for sharing it with us.
This past Sunday, I made the 100+ mile roadtrip from Philadelphia to York to see Bruce at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. I listened to the Williamsburg New Year's Eve show on the drive out there and it was great to dance to Scarlet Begonias in the car while zooming along on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. It was a good thing I didn't cause an accident or anything. On the way home, it was the Noisemakers cds in the car. A great representation of Bruce's live music. I love how those cds are formatted just like a concert, complete with Bruce announcing an intermission that takes place between disk 1 and disk 2.
Anyways, about the York show. What a fabulous performance he did!!! I had the perfect view of him at his Baldwin piano and I could see his magical fingers all night long. Simply great! Bruce seemed really to enjoy himself during the entire show.
Bruce came on stage around 8:10 pm and played until about 11:20, with only a 15(?) minute break. This was without a doubt the BEST Bruce show I've even seen. Here are some of the highlights:
There was the requisite Accordion Worship Service during Western Skyline. It's always fun to see the dancing ladies on the stage. And the band reactions to them, too. The audience was very well behaved with people who wanted to dance doing so in the aisle along the walls. Bruce certainly satisfied many, many requests, both from shouts during the brief silences in between songs and from the written requests. Among the obvious played requests were: Stander on the Mountain, Country Doctor, Barcelona Mona, Pastures of Plenty, and a few more that I can't recall. He threw in his own version of the Beatles' Lady Madonna during one of the jams. There was a touching I'm In Love. Young master Bonaparte banging away on the drums. Bruce played both his songs from the Tin Cup soundtrack, Big Stick and Nobody There But Me. He seemed to enjoy singing the double entendres during Big Stick. hehe. :) The encore songs were the Man With the Golden Idol medley, which the band seemed to have fun playing, certainly JT on the organ.
Bruce did an *awesome* version of Country Doctor which went into The Way It Is. The amazing thing was that he did his patented Two Hand Independence Exercise of both songs, as a piano solo - left hand playing Country Doctor and right hand doing The Way It Is. Unbelievable. Bruce sure has improved his mastering of the piano.
I'd give my left kidney for a recording of this show. I did see several recording rigs set up. So if any tapers are reading here and are feeling generous, please consider this as a kneeling grovel for a copy. I do have some shows as trade bait, and there's always my aforementioned kidney. ;) Please contact me if you are willing.
That's enough from me right now. This show will always be etched in my mind. Thanks Bruce.
