Listen: Bruce Hornsby w/R.S. Hornsby, Charlottesville (2006)

We’re trying something new here – rather than download, we’re putting this one up for streaming, so you can hear it immediately, and on your mobile device. This is one of my own recordings: Bruce Hornsby with R.S. Hornsby and the Noisemakers from Charlottesville, VA in 2006.

This was one of those nights where you saw it dawn on the band quickly that they were onto something special, beginning with a Bruce and R.S. duo. The crowd were into it from the start and they gave an ovation for every single song. Bruce’s bass player J.V. Collier later called it one of the top five shows he’d played at the time with this version of the Noisemakers. R.S. Hornsby sat in for the entire show, as did Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle for “Defenders of the Flag”, and hometown hero John D’earth for “The Way It Is” and “Rainbow’s Cadillac”. A great, great outing, even by this band’s standards.
