Bruce employs a jazzier feel and extended instrumentals on his latest record. Newly sons Russell and Keith influence “Fields of Gray” (and feature in the video). Several songs, including the title track and Rainbow’s Cadillac, remain mainstays in today’s setlists. Jerry Garcia returns alongside Bonnie Raitt, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis and Phil Collins. John Molo still features throughout.
Bass player Jimmy Haslip hooks up for the same record, and for a tour across North America and Europe. Laura Creamer is still around to provide backing vocals, to be joined for the first time by Debbie Henry. This was the last year for Laura Creamer, who has since gone on to back up Kid Rock.
