Fare Thee Well: GD50 Shows

The Fare Thee Well concerts, held in July 2015 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and Soldier Field in Chicago, were a series of performances commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. These shows marked a significant milestone in the band’s history, serving as both a farewell to fans and a celebration of their enduring legacy.

Bruce Hornsby was a notable guest at the Fare Thee Well shows, contributing his piano and vocals across all three shows. Bruce’s connection with the Grateful Dead dates back to the late 1980s when he frequently collaborated with the band with (and opened for) the band.

Legacy of the Fare Thee Well Shows

The Fare Thee Well concerts were hailed as a fitting tribute to the Grateful Dead’s history, blending nostalgia with a sense of closure. The shows were broadcast live, allowing fans worldwide to experience the event, further cementing the band’s cultural impact. Bruce Hornsby’s participation added an extra layer of significance, reminding audiences of the ongoing influence of the Grateful Dead’s music.

These performances also paved the way for future iterations of the Grateful Dead legacy, with offshoots like Dead & Company continuing to share the band’s music with new generations of fans. The Fare Thee Well concerts remain a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of the Grateful Dead and the connections forged through their music.
