Michael Baker was an accomplished drummer and musical director, widely recognised for his versatile drumming skills across genres such as pop, jazz, and R&B. He is perhaps best known for his long-standing role as the drummer and musical director for legendary singer Whitney Houston, contributing to her live performances and tours for several decades.

Michael’s career took off in the 1980s, when he began working as a session and touring drummer with various artists. His ability to adapt his drumming style to suit different musical contexts made him a sought-after drummer, both in the studio and on the road. Baker’s technical proficiency and deep musical understanding also allowed him to transition into the role of musical director for many of the artists he worked with.
His big break came when he was hired as Whitney Houston’s drummer in the late 1980s. Baker quickly became an essential part of her touring ensemble, providing the rhythm for many of her iconic performances, including world tours and major televised appearances. His work with Houston helped him establish himself as one of the top drummers in the pop and R&B world.
