Early life and background

Justin Vernon was born on April 30, 1981, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He grew up in a musical family; his father was a guitarist and his mother sang in a choir. Vernon began playing guitar at a young age and was influenced by a variety of musical styles, including rock, folk, and blues. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he studied communications and contributed to various musical projects during his time there.

Bon Iver

After the breakup of his previous band, DeYarmond Edison, Vernon retreated to a cabin in northern Wisconsin during the winter of 2006. It was during this solitary period that he recorded Bon Iver’s debut album, “For Emma, Forever Ago,” using minimal equipment. The album was released in 2007 and received critical acclaim for its haunting melodies and introspective lyrics. The track “Skinny Love”*became particularly popular, helping to establish Bon Iver as a significant presence in the indie music scene.

Musical evolution

Following the success of his debut, Vernon expanded Bon Iver into a full band. The second album, “Bon Iver, Bon Iver,”released in 2011, won two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album.
