Education
Roy Muth earned a degree in Music Education from Old Dominion University.
Teaching career
He has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Chowan College in North Carolina. Roy also maintains a busy private teaching studio and performing schedule.
Performance experience
Roy has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, and the Virginia Opera Orchestra. He has played lead trumpet for notable artists such as Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Arturo Sandoval, Jimmy Heath, and Milt Hinton. Additionally, he has collaborated with various Broadway show tour companies, circuses, and ice shows. His playing can be heard on movie soundtracks, radio and television commercials, as well as Bruce Hornsby’s 1993 CD *Harbor Lights*.
Notable collaborations
Roy has performed regularly at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with the Great American Music Ensemble, a jazz repertoire big band. In 1998, this group was featured on a live National Public Radio broadcast that reached 18 countries in Europe. The band recently completed their first CD with guest soloist Jon Faddis. Roy has also led his own big band in Virginia Beach since 1990.
